Abstract

The study examines emotional intelligence and assertiveness as factors that influence prosocial behavior among Nigerian Police. One hundred and twenty-two (122) police officers comprising of 78 males and 44 females (mean age = 36.8, SD = 9.68) selected from police stations in Enugu metropolis participated in the study. A questionnaire comprising demographic information and three scales: Prosociality Scale; emotional Intelligence Scale and Assertiveness Schedule was used for data collection. Hierarchical multiple regression was used for analysis of data. Results reveal emotional intelligence (β = .327, t = 3.65, p<.05) and assertiveness (β= .273, t= 2.85, p<.05) as factors that significantly influence prosocial behavior among the Nigerian Police. Useful implications and conclusion were made
